Getting our kids to do things can be tricky. But remember how difficult it is to start a new habit for yourself? When we want to do something new, we create reminders, incentives, and commitment devices to encourage (or discourage) a behavior. These systems allow us to get the kids dressed and fed as well as take care of our homes and jobs. If we want our kids to learn new habits, we need to help them develop systems, too.
